Kidding over (for now).
« on: March 23, 2013, 09:53:28 am »

Well that is the 4 we had due all kidded now and seem to be getting on ok.

We had Arwen , who had a textbook kidding, 1 strong healthy female (Brienne), and 1 very tiny weak male who didn't make it.

Hopefully here is Brienne....

Then Lantana, who had to have her Caesarian. Here is a piccie of her boy Leo, with the kitten Poppy, who decided that she LOVED him.

Then Rima had a straight forward kidding- overdue, but straightforward. 1 white female. Only thing is she shouldn't be white! Ria the kid is 5/8's British Toggenburg, 2/8's British Alpine and 1/8th is half white! Fortunately as we used a BA male in the mix she is not pure BT as that would have been a bit of a disaster to have a white BT.

Here is Ria at a couple of hours old-

Here is a pic of Lantana out in the field a couple of weeks ago, so you can see how big she was

And a pic of her being prepped for the C section!

Of the three first kidders, Arwen has a lovely udder, so hopeful for her showing career. Rima doesn't have a good showing career ahead- not a great udder, and Rula may be somewhere between the two- but we will keep her on for another year anyway. Lantana may now go into retirement, she milks very well, so we might just let her milk on as long as she will, without ever having kids again. Unfortunately no female from her, she had one last year, and one this year, but we lost both of them. So little Leo will probably be put to Rula, and maybe even in the future Ria or Ranvir to keep my mum's L line going.

They are gorgeous.  Poor Lantana.  I didn't know a goat could stretch that far.
