Sheep what would be a good price
« on: March 21, 2013, 06:55:08 pm »
We have been offered some sheep 8 ewes in total all supposed to be in lamb two of them have already on the last 2 days both had twins and all 4 lambs are doing well, they are a flock of mixed breed sheep, a Jacobs is one and there looks as if there is a horned Dorset in there,  but most are a heinz 57 variety,

The price asked for them is £480 which equates to £60 each is this reasonable?

Thanks in advance

Extremely Reasonable!!! I'd jump at that!

Age largely affects price but still £60 for in lamb/ lambed ewes. I paid £135 for shearlings last year and I believe a good ewe with twins down here are fetching £200 atm

Thanks for all the advice we did purchase the ewes and on top of that we also purchased a ram and one of last years lambs, total cost £500, all in all a good price.

All but one of the ewes have lambed and we now have 10 healthy lambs equally boys and girls.

Would like to know what breed the ram is so here is a picture any ideas would be appreciated.

Also next month they will need to be shorn how does one go about selling their fleeces?

We had not planned upon having sheep this early in our plans for our smallholding but one does not turn down a good deal.
