Any stock fencing recommendations for sheep&horses?
« on: March 17, 2013, 01:14:16 pm »
Hello All,

We've just had our electric fencing battery stolen, and that combined with the fact the sheep know they can get through the electric lines if they really want to has prompted the decision to put up stock fencing outside the post and rail that is there.

Can anyone please recommend some small squared stock fencing that is suitable for sheep and horses?

:horse: :sheep: :sheep: Thank you  :sheep: :sheep: :horse:

We find normal pig mesh with a strand of high-tensile wire electrified if needed works well but I would never trust my Balwen Welsh Mountain ram if there were in-heat ewes on the other side. Also beware that two rams on either side of a fence are quite capable of making a big hole/destroying a small part of a fence, with this in mind do you have rams and what breed are your sheep.

Hope this helps

Tornado horsemesh or similar is the best, it comes in various grades and ideally you have it high tension. Fantastic for all stock.

Thats great - thanks for the suggestions that's exactly the kind of things needed. It'll just be to keep an expanding flock of ewes in, no rams they will be safely elsewhere. Only Southdowns at the mo but branching out next year although we'll have nothing horned.
Main concern was the horses safety as they're not ours and they're working horses.
Brilliant, thanks again - the Internet is so overwhelming, I didn't know where to start but you all have so much experience and knowledge thanks all.

This is elite tornado  high tension 5ft5 tall on the right (with 2 wires above), it was done to keep the non livestock friendly Doberman in but has been ideal for lambing too, both for lambs safety from predators and also for preventing any heads through stock fencing etc oh and also and for the limbo dancing under electric tape Haflinger pony :-)))

I'm green with envy, at both your beautiful view and your Haflinger
Only real predators from the side to be re-fenced are OAPs and children but that's interesting to know that you find it keeps them out. That does look ideal though. Thanks for sharing your beautiful scenery for OH and I to sigh over!
