FOUND DOGS
« on: March 14, 2013, 03:59:07 pm »
My daughter found 2 small terriers on her walk last night, she did describe them but not sure if she has a photo. As she was near the police station she took them there but they do not take in stray or lost dogs so it was agreed for my daughter to go home and call the warden as it was too late to hang around with her own 2 dogs and the 2 found ones.
She gave them some food and was so moved when all they wanted was cuddles, they both looked like small terriers and were very well behaved with nice collars on BUT a chain holding them together  :( , the police suspect they were stolen dogs and were going to investigate further, they were a bit flea bitten and had hair missing in places but one sat on my daughters knee curled up like a baby, if no one comes or claims them she will keep them.
I just hope the warden looks at some lost dog sights all around the UK as with transport, they are more likely to have been stolen from a distance away! poor dogs, hope they find their owners :'(

Check local vets, who can read for a chip, and will have had any lost dogs reported to them.

Vets will check for free, also ring other vets to check and look at DogLost on the web.
If after all that noone can be found then well done her for keeping them.
NB I found a terrier wandering on the road choking on a stick. It took me well over a week of hard work to find the owners (who I wasnt that keen on when i did find them) but it can take that long - they had come over 5 miles over the fields.

Put them on here.  A friend of mine has been looking for her GSP Angel; for 15 weeks now - and if anyone kept her without making 100% sure they had tried every avenue to get her back to Dawn I would be pretty mad at them. Dawn is heartbroken and will never give up.

They were taken and are with the local dog warden, they were taken by them last night, the warden said they looked like they would have been chipped and he would certainly check, just hope they do look at the lost dog forum.....
The dogs were found near to the police station so that was my daughters first point of call, some passer buy told her to chain them to the fence and leave them...now thats horrid...my daughter found it hard as the police station is shut at night but was able to phone from the free phone outside, after a long while, there was some one at the station who came down and explained they do not take dogs etc etc, but would phone the warden for her, she was on her way home, also not far away, so said thats where they would be as in the past my daughter has found dogs and had to waite ages for them to be collected, not the wardens fault but not always good when you already have 2 big dogs of your own.
I know they are small black dogs, one wired  haired and one smooth, she does know a lot about dogs herself and said they were very well behaved......so fingers crossed.....hope that warden has checked but they were going to the vets for a check up anyway!!! :bouquet:

If know one can be found and she gets them back or we get them, we will certainly check, I would hate to loose a dog myself and if anyone saw one of mine roaming around I would hope they would do the same as my daughter and not that horrid passer by, funny thing, she often gets dogs follow her when she is out walking, one was a Bassett hound, that was also handed to the warden but the owner did live near!!!

Well done to Sarah for getting them looked after.  Doglost is the main website for both lost and found dogs, and they are very helpful.  I'm sure the Dog Warden will be helpful.  The new Halo Scanners indicate when chips of dogs are lost or stolen but they are expensive.

Sarah was told a lot of Terrier type dogs have been stolen around the area...I am not sure if she did take a photo as she was pre occupied, the dogs, both males kept christening the room, wee wee everywhere, she was so upset as they were both very sweet and chained together, they think they may have been used for stud dogs!!

Sounds like typical marking.  Certainly may have been stud dogs but also typical of terriers. If she got photos they can go on some of the Facebook dog found sites. Difficult to know if they'd be better with their original ownre or not - yes, if they were stolen, no if they belonged to a puppy farmer.

Poor pups - but lucky it was Sarah who found them.

We found a JR once - it was around Christmas and the police asked us if we'd hold on to her as they were too busy to take her to the pound. By morning, we were hoping that no-one would claim her as she was a wee sweetie (we were going to call her Poppy and were discussing if she'd need one coat or two  ::) ). But someone did claim her  :( Which is a shame because we're much nicer than her real owner (IMHO  ;D )

When I first married, I opened our front door to put out the empties and a dog ran in, same thing happened, we kept it but no one came back for her, however, she eventually ran off never to be seen again, a true littlest Hobo, so we bought  our first pedigree,  a yellow lab called Sindy......funny how some dogs just turn up, my neighbours dog has got out in the past and ran to my house, it's the smells I suppose........

Years ago I adopted a red setter from a rescue centre where she had been for 7 days and no one had come for her. I called her Amber and it was love at first sight. Unfortunately she had distemper and was very ill.
Luckily my OH's sister was a vets nurse and we got all of the treatment free. I remember cooking tripe for the dog (ugh) to entice her to eat. She was just starting to recover nicely when her old owners turned up. I was absolutely gutted and reluctant to let them have the dog back but had no choice. They wern't at all grateful that she had found a nice home and didn't even offer to pay fot the vets treatment (they didn't know it hadn't cost us anything). In fact they argued that she didn't have distemper at all.
This was almost 40 years ago and I have never forgotten her  :(

Mine was over 40 years ago too now I think about it.

My daughter said the police have had peoples dogs taken off them while they have been out walking, that's a HUGE concern!!!

I think with the current economics any way some one can make a few quid can become attractive, I suppose un neutered males or females are ideal to breed from, little dogs ideal to sell on and posh dogs also ideal to sell on, its scare, and as we want to move I now am concerned where we move too, although as we will not have a B&B at least they will be inside the house when I am out and only outside when I am in.
My dogs would make a row if some one was about and I rarely go anywhere without them, they even come shopping with me and when we shop at night we leave them inside...but you never know? Our dogs are the most valuable thing we have in money terms and in emotional terms.
Another point, if the dogs that were found were actually owned by a puppy farmer, I am not too sure how that could be proved, as these type of people are clever, they sell the pups discretely at markets etc and the pups will not always be near to the stud dog.....so hope that's not the case...... :'(
