wanted: Jumbo Quail hatching eggs
« on: March 12, 2013, 08:13:19 am »
Hi all,

I have taken the plunge and bought myself an incubator last night. I want to hatch my own flock of jumbo quail (jumbo as they are dual purpose) and have seen a couple of sellers on ebay.

However, I know ebay can be a bit hit and miss for hatching eggs so I wanted to see if anyone on here has any I could buy. If anyone is within 20 miles of me (Lichfield) then I can come and collect.

Thanks everyone.

I got some posted out to me by a quail farm in Wales (google it).  They were ok, fairly good hatching rate.  I would wait another month though - fertility levels may be a down until proper Springtime.

We used a farm in Wales, too. Ours were Japanese laying quail. Almost all hatched.

Enjoy your Quail They are MUCH hardier than you would think.
Mine overwinter in an empty rabbit hutch as we have permenant winter snow (still laying)
One does think its nearly spring though, two eggs over the last few days. (Its still -4)

We've bought most of ours off eBay, and had no problem with them coming through the post.

Car boot sales can also be a good place to check; a lot of people seem to sell chicken, goose and quail eggs at them these days, and they are usually fertile.
Poultry auctions might also be worth a try, if there is any near you.

Bought 5 doz Quail eggs from a seller on E-baylast month. Only cost  me just over £20 including P&P on' Buy it now'.
Interestingly I'm fairly sure they came from Wales. They actually sent me 5 1/2 doz and only 3 were broken in transit.

I had just over 50% hatch rate which I was happy with as it was so early in the year

I managed to get them all into a Brinsea 20 incubator by putting about 6 on top of some others. They hatched at between 17 and 21 days.

I've bought several lots of Quail eggs fom E-bay sellers over the years and have always had a pretty good hatch rate.
