More good prices - including pigs!

Store Lambs (3007) - Sedgemoor market Saturday 9th March
An even larger entry of 3007 Store Lambs sold to a dearer trade for the best but no dearer for the smallest lambs. The best sold to £100. Others £94; £91 ; £89.50 and £84 Mediums ranged £55-£85. Plain £40-£55. Boners £10 plus. Overall average £61.22.
Couples (112E & 165L)
Back on track! A reduced entry of 112 Ewes and 165 Lambs sold to a much improved trade, when strong singles were in particularly high demand. Stronger lambs are sought after and Vendors are encouraged to sell them at 3 weeks or older. Best doubles to £182 (£60.67/life). Others to £180 (£60/life); £179 (£59.67/life) tch and £166 (£55.33/life).
Strong singles very well sold to £159 (£79.50/life). Others to £136 (£68/life); £126 (£63/life) and £125 (£62.50/life) and £124 (£62/life). Overall average back up to £50.88/life.
Breeding Ewes (47)
A modest entry of 47 Breeding Ewes sold to a steady trade. Top was £94 for 2T Suffolks due this month to a Charollais ram. It is advised that any in lamb ewes are scanned prior to being sold.
Grazing Ewes & Rams (920) – Vendors are reminded that female sheep sold for slaughter are not to be heavily in lamb.
Another large entry of 920 Grazers sold to a slightly dearer trade. The best were £85 plus and sold to £111.50 and £99. Others £108; £100.50; £98; Mediums ranged £55-£85. Plain £40-£55. Boners £10 plus. Overall average £61.22.
Orphan Lambs (52)
A much reduced entry of 52 Orphan Lambs sold to a much more buoyant trade, to a top of £27 others at £25. Others to £23. Small lambs all £11 plus. Overall average £18.08/head.
Vendors are advised to ensure their 2012/2013 born lambs, sold at foot, as orphans or as store lambs, have at least a single electronic flock tag. This will enable Purchasers to upgrade ewe lambs if required and facilitate subsequent on movements for all, thereby ensuring maximum buyer support. Any breeding sheep born in 2010 or later will require double tags, one being Electronic, with both displaying flock and full individual number.
190 PIGS Store Pigs (62)
Short entry and a much stronger trade, when more buyers were looking for better quality stores. 8 w/o Saddleback to £28, 9 w/o Whites £36 and 11 w/o Blues to £51.
Breeding Pigs (10)
Considerable interest with strong Pietrain gilts (x2) to £300. 3 smaller gilts to £150. Young White boars £142.
Fat Pigs (92)
Another good entry and trade continues to rise for the best. More needed to satisfy demand. Best lights to £102, mediums £124 and heavies to £145.
Cull Sows (25)
Much stronger trade for the best well fleshed sows, which sold to a top of £248

I don't have the details but apparently pig prices were well up at Kendal today, too.

Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing
