Where to look for..
« on: March 11, 2013, 11:24:39 am »
Where would best place be, for finding a couple of orphan lambs?, don't know any local sheep farmers, only cattle.
Our boys off to slaughter this week, which we brought as older sheep, this time looking for a more meaty /modern sheep which my children can help/ learn bottle to table process.

Any ideas and webites welcome, I'm in the somerset area.

Depending on which bit of Somerset...  Exmoor Farm Services at Kentisbury may know of member farmers who have spare lambs.  And if you're near the Devon border, DASH members may be able to help; I think someone said they have their own lambbank?

Otherwise ask in your local animal health / agricultural supplies store for suggestions.
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Have you tried your local agri merchants?  I was at ours last week and there were several posted on the board there.

Sedgemoor Market straight off the M5 (map of directions on their website) - they have a lot of orphan lambs for sale at the moment (91 last week) at a range of prices.  I think they start selling at 12pm on a Saturday.

If you are coming over to get some from me - you could always take more if I have them.  :)
