Rattley breathing in orphan lambs
« on: March 03, 2013, 10:00:53 am »
Hi,

I have 6 lambs on the bottle, all doing well however this morning a few seemed to have rattley/raspy breathing, it sound nasal but obviously don't want to take chances. Do I need to get them some antibiotics?
Still feeding well at the moment.

Thanks

Pneumonia.  Get antibiotics into them FAST.

Unless they've inhaled milk!  Any chance that's it?

I'd one with rattley breathing last week - it was pneumonia.  Course of antibiotics and he is fine.  If you're not sure, I would give antibiotics to cover - better safe than sorry!  Though others may not agree with this approach.

Hi given all antibiotics to be sure, I know how quickly they can go down hill. All seem well and lively this morning.
