Ear notcher for piglets
« on: February 28, 2013, 08:58:52 pm »
Hi, our first litter of 11 saddlebacks were born today and all are doing well. They are from registered parents and we intend to notch id. Can anyone recommend a supplier for small ear notcher. Most I have seen are 16mm deep although I have heard people say 8mm notchers are available but can not find any online.

I know I could use a larger one and only use the tip but if I am buying one I would rather buy the right size to start with.

Many thanks, Richard

Hi Richard, I have only ever seen the 16m/m that is the size I use. Just use the tip.

Yup, we use the standard notchers (from Fearing International) and only take about 4mm out of the ear as a notch (but we do them at around 10-14 days old)
