Advice please
« on: February 12, 2013, 04:13:12 pm »
We currently have, apart from 19 weaners, a Saddleback sow about 3 years old, she has had 3 litters the last of 9 are coming up to 10 weeks old, it is now time for her to go due to financial constraints, can anyone advise me what she would be like for sausages and possibly  meat, I have had a mixed reaction from asking around, advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

She'll be absolutely fine for bacon, sausages and burgers (pork burgers are really nice  :yum::thumbsup:

I'm not 100% sure on joints/chops etc - might be starting to get a bit tough  :-\ but if it's for yourself and you do lots of stews/casaroles/slow roasts it might be okay.

There has been a post on here, about 2 or 3 weeks back, on exactly this subject.   Mixed views, some found it OK, others not.   Afraid I can't remember what it was called - Tamsaddle

pressure cookers do a good job on tough old meat. but best to have sausages made out of an old sow.
