simmentals (dairy/maternal strain) pedigree!
« on: June 18, 2009, 01:26:14 pm »
hiya, at a small agricultural show in roundfort  (west of ireland)
i stumbled across a fantastic simmental cow and calf, unlike any of the other simmentals i have ever seen,
the cow was longer in the back than usual, had more white on her than most and had a very good bag of milk
she was to all extensive purposes a very old type of simmental dual purpose and far superior to any of the other simmentals at the show, im trying to track down others like her!
has anyone else seen this type?

You might have to go back to their native area.

I was thinking of getting some purebred simmentals to show and then (hopefully after a lot of rosettes) Breed to a purebred bull. Then show there progeny and sell on the bulls and keep the heifers. I rang a man who had advertised on the farmers journal. I asked him were his stock of show quality and he said hopefully with a bit of feeding they would be good enough so these heifers weren't going to win the royal. I asked him how much and he said he wanted 2,500 for the maiden heifers and 3,000 for the incalf heifers. does this sound right to you or is it to much.

Regards Patrick

are you in ireland or the uk? if you are in ireland i recommend you talk to raceview simmentals, they are one of the most successful show/breeders that i know of you can find them at www.raceviewsimmentals.com
i also know of a stunning show quality heifer calf coming up for sale, and the bonus is she has already been shown alongside her mother so she would be a good starting point e-mail me for details as i dont want to put someones private number on public view.
gem.

also be carefull buying maiden heifers as you are not guaranteed fertility.
