does anyone have clear advice on where to put it and which fruit and veg definitely don't agree with it?? I heard Roses, soft fruit and fruit trees (to avoid bitter pip disease) , now OH found an article from the RHS and it's a no for all of these as too alkaline. I'm quite confused. Brassicas do like it alkaline, so it would be good worked in there? Blueberries in pots?

Not sure about the others, but I thought blueberries liked acid soil in any case?

Onions and all alliums love woodash for the potassium, as do tomatoes and their family.  I put it around all stone fruit trees and use it on pastureland.  I suppose it depends on how acid/alkali your ground is.
 
As a rule of thumb, green leafy growth comes from nitrogen (manure) and flower set comes from potassium (woodash/comfrey)
