We're keeping with the wintry flavour today with most of the action occurring in western and central regions as a weather front moves in bringing a mix of rain, sleet and snow. Further east it's drier and brighter with just a scattering of wintry showers, but everywhere it's chilly with highs of 3-6c typically. Concentrating on the front arriving from the west, as it crosses Ireland this morning it'll mostly be rain but on the higher ground and perhaps even to lower levels in parts of Northern Ireland there will be some sleet and snow. As it pushes further east into mainland Britain we start to see more in the way of snow - particularly away from western coasts across Scotland where further accumulations are likely. Into England and Wales, northern England is likely to see mostly rain, sleet and wet snow at lower levels, but the hills will see accumulations of snow, with a similar story into further south as well. The main batch of more persistent rain, sleet and snow will tend to die out well before reaching eastern regions, but behind there will be some residual showers developing into the evening and overnight, which by this time are likely to include some sleet and snow at lower levels as well as on the hills. Into tomorrow, the wintry showers continue in coastal regions but with just a few making it too far inland, it's mainly dry elsewhere with ice a hazard early and late. The weekend then starts on a fairly quiet, but still cold note, but Sunday sees the start of a more active spell with low pressure moving in, increasing the wind and bringing some rain with it which is likely to turn to snow in places bringing the threat of some significant accumulations even to lower levels. There is some uncertainty over the track of the low and the distribution of the heaviest rain, sleet and snow, so stay tuned for updates on this. net wether up date Risk of heavy sleet and snow later in the weekend
