Many show sheep are shorn in January, which allows a fair amount of regrowth that can then be cut, permed and blow-dried to perfection in plenty of time for the showing season.  I, on the other hand, prefer to see sheep in their working clothes.  The Llanwenogs that regularly win prizes at the Three Counties are shown recently shorn and do well anyway.

Hello,
We show Balwen sheep and usually shear around the end of Feb beginning of March and earlier and the sheep seem to peel around their necks!!
Balwens are quite tough to shear in January and the wool doesn't seem to grown back as fast as what it would on some other breeds.
Hope this helps.
Katy
