We advertised in Scottish Farmer long time ago as a 'considerate professional family looking for etc .....' and we had over 40 people calling us.  People sometimes want to know who they are selling a house or building too, partic if it's a farmer.

I've also seen adverts up in the notice boards of nice villages of people looking for a house in the area.

We once put notices through people's doors in an area we fancied.
registered soay, castlemilk moorit  and north ronaldsay sheep, pygmy goats, steinbacher geese, muscovy ducks, various hens, lots of visiting mallards, a naughty border collie, a puss and a couple of guinea pigs

We moved from Clackmannanshire to Airth last June, still really central and not too far away from family.

Lots of good dog walking and have a few local shops. We looked for around 6 months but only viewed 2 houses because we knew more or less what we wanted.

Good luck.

I have seen a nice new house in Airth...also Cowie...backing onto fields....I love Airth Castle for coffee but not eaten there yet!!!  Cowie seems nearer to Stirling and good for transport links....
I know Clackmannan has a bad reputation but I love it here....it suits me

We're the cottage at the side of the burn near the entrance to the Castle. There's a few in Kincardine for sale and there's also a lodge house near Bogside with a paddock.

I saw that one in Bogside...I love the idea but....my husband doesn't he keeps saying he would live in a town in a small flat....not for me....I would rather a small house thats not too posh near open countryside or a forest....although saying that, the one we viewed near the forest we both loved but too much to be done, there was not one thing that did not need doing. This house has flat acsess all around back and front, but the one near the forest was up and down steps with no spererate room down stairs just in case...we had an offere excepted on a similar one but thats now gone, that ticked all the box's.....I love one thats off the beaton track with forest in the back and it was used for a holiday home but far too remote for some one who cannot drive and I suspsect it gets cut off in bad weather.......
We are waiting to see now but I suspect the house may sell soonish...although the longer we stay the more of the morgage is payed off...thats positive and if we have some sunshire the bills will be cheaper.
My dream home would be not necessarily a bungalow but at least have a room downstairs to use as a bedroom, a down stairs shower, a large kitchen with a Rayburn or Aga, I do not even mind open plan, then a log burner in a small lounge with a view and maybe a conservatory looking onto woodland,,,up stairs shower room etc and maybe 2 bedrooms, as for land, not too bothered but it would be a bonus,...2 of the 3 houses we looked at kept chickens like us......We even looked at the tiny house in Forest Mill and the Cafe........the tiny house is a tad too tiny but you could poss put a conservatory on the back as inside is quite modern and pretty,,,but then I think about being an old git with no car..mind you, there are building a new village there so maybe    If we did go for the tiny house its right next to the shoot and the disused train line for doggie walkies...our dogs go mad up there but I get worried about the road and livestock......
I would move to where Rosemary suggested and while I was looking last night with my back to the TV, I kept hearing them say over and over again, Broughty ferry, everyone, including Steve loves it there and I have now seen pretty places near there so who knows???????

'The Ferry' as it's known (I'm a Dundee lass originally) is fab but pricey, everyone in Dundee either wants to live there or at the west end of Dundee (the University side).  Wormit on the other side of the river Tay (fife side) is a nice place, lovely houses.  Or Dundee out west towards Perth has some great wee places too, worth a drive - you can't beat the sea HGL.  We have a great place here in the Borders but it's still not the sea - it's that quality of light you just don't get in the country and that salty air ...... stop, I'll be moving again..

Steve, my husband always has said he loves the sea, I love forests......so a combi of both would be fantastic...a walk on the beach would also be fantastic...especilay after watching this mornings news about a dog walker picking up some whale poo or sick thats worth £££££££ that way we could buy a house outright....now off to see what I can find on the Forth "beach" ha aha :roflanim: :roflanim:

Just bumped into a friend from Clackmannan who's daughter is going to put her house on the market soon...not sure what its like but the area its in is lovely....so who knows, she has 4 dogs and so it obviously has a dog friendly garden....fence, gate etc
When/ If we get an offer I will put some cards in the area we fancy to see if any people are thinking of selling, I still keep thinking " location location location" the location we love has a house that needs so much doing to it but its a place I would enjoy being an old git in.....Before we move up to Scotland we lived in one of the cheapest private houses in the most expensive area, it was stunning there and the house was very sweet, open fire and allotment at the back (with a puma according to my posh neighbour who fancied my husband)...we had well over 40 viewings and 4 sales and tons of offers , glad it went in the end to a wonderful play writer for the BBC who's disabled daughter went to the School up the road.......ideal for them......
I do so want a nice little place that's me.....it may be the last time I move so no way do I want to put up with something that does not suit my charactor, Steve's not so fussed, he would have a warm box in Falkirk :roflanim: :roflanim: Rosemary knows what I love   :innocent: THANKSSSSSS

At least if Steve's not too fussed it makes it easier than if you both have very different ideas.  I was watching an old Escape to the Country today on iplayer while doing some knitting, and there was a couple who both wanted different things - one wanted modern and in a town, the other wanted period and in the country.

location is everything. im moving cos i dont like being so close to the village and interferring people. if i could pick up the farm, ping off a few neighbours and move it i would.  ;D ;D
our next place has to be right next to the beach, where i can walk the dogs without putting their leads on / or have to drive a car to get there.
after seeing a few floods in different countries, we will be careful on how high up we are too.
im fed up with huge bills in our big house so its definitely a smaller house and lower council tax next time. i hate being cold and skint.  ::) ::)

Could not agree more Pheonix, I am always cold and skint, even in summer and we actually are doing very well as a business, we run this huge place on a tiny income and still manage. I also would love to walk the dogs without a lead, that doer upper is a place next to where I walk anyway......no leads required, I have never had crap neighbours, although when the children were growing up one person in our close was horrid, but no one liked them at all, I would hate to live in a small hamlet with a load of busy bodies, we actually like to keep ourself to ourself....nothing worse than living somewhere with bad neighbours.....actually here they are super duper......
I hope to get my husband thinking outside the box....BUT.....he is also thinking about income.....he currently works in Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and sometimes Oban and Alexandria, he may be working in Falkirk and often gets job offers in the borders...so a central area, that idea of the beach sounds fab...to both of us a basic home with a fire next to lovely dog walks is far more important than a posh house miles from dog walks.....we actually have walks all around us here but we do need a dog lead!!!  Not sure why this is brown? what on earth have I done? arh well!!!

I know :excited:  I know  :excited:  as my spelling is not good  ;)  I copied your tag Pheonix and then, after pasting it scrubbed it, the tags are brown!!! It was early.

Just watching the auction programme and I realise why I am so concerned where I live next. We earn a good income from our house here, when we move i will have to work (I do have work if needed) I also am 60 and with the slow market cannot see me wanting to sell up again.....the last thing I want is to be stuck in a house I am not that fond of and regret moving to...only one house I was not keen on in the past but it was a great house for children. I also do not want to miss an oppertunity.....I am having sleepless nights and restless days, thats never ever happened before....we could rent for a while but would loose money and our morgage here is less than some rentals.......arh well, back to the drawing board!!
