Nearly there?
« on: January 25, 2013, 01:51:58 pm »
Petals kid came as a bit of a surprise as we were under the impression that they had both been covered around the 3rd of September, just been out to check Gobo and her boobies (technical term) are huge and firm she does not want me to touch her so I don't want to upset her too much, if she was covered on 3rd sept she would be on day 144 now, does this seem about right or do you think she could be further on than that. She also appears to have a bit of a discharge from her vulva.
I will be keeping a close watch on her now but looking after small grandchildren at the same time so can't be out there all the time.

I would keep a close eye, if they are really close to kidding they do look a bit hollow in the sides, as the kid(s) have dropped. Discharge - if opaque, yellowish, gelatinous she may well be close. Udder is not too reliable, some will have it a few weeks in advance...

But it is Friday evening, it's snowing, and the vet will be in the pub... :-J

Ooh how exciting! I've only had one goat kid so am a novice. For her she got really restless that morning, her vulva looked puckered and later in the day we got discharge. Sixpence was born 3.45pm.
Good luck and pictures pleeeeeease!

Fingers crossed it will all be allright - often difficult to second guess. Mine have so far always kidded on day 150 or 151, but I always know the actual mating date. That really helps.

Pom had a rock hard udder at least a week before she kidded and I had to take milk off her several times.

2 healthy kids born this morning about 9.30. Mum and babies both well
We did have the vet as I was a little worried about the amount of blood that she had lost prior to kidding but I think his feeling around got her on her way. I'm sure he was hardly out of the village before the first one had been born. Photos to follow
