.....you know the new song by Bowie? It has a line in it "the moment you know, you know you know"..... And I know things have to change here for the sake of my health....So......and this will come as a shock/surprise to some of you.....after 40 years (yes I got my first pig at 12 years old) I am giving up livestock.[/font]So the pigs.....1 boar 2 in pig gilts now £150 the lot....or near offers, a nice pig arc with detachable floor, in vgc, £40 ono. AND....Ryeland sheep (white).....registered ram, perfect gent, halter trained, very easy. 3 ewes 1 registered 2 regiserable (am working on it) (2010, 2011 and 2012) all been running with ram, all very easy to handle all wormed etc. £300 the lot to very good home, includes free a friendly Ouessant wether who is companion/pet.
Also.....stock trailer, old but ok and roadworthy £150
wheeled hay racks 2 x long 1 x short...£60 for the long ones, £75 for the short one as its only a year old
troughs metal £20 each
small bales of good haylage £2.50 each
sheep shedding gate £20
other sundry items

Obviously kit cannot leave before livestock. Good homes and proper care required for livestock or will make into sausages....!
This has been a very hard decision but one that had to be made.

That must be a really difficult decision to make.

Pity I'm not closer and richer, could do with some of those things.

Many things already reserved.....yes it is a tough decision.....but I have seen too many people struggle on just because they cannot do anything else....and their stock suffers. I have very high standards of care and if I am going to compromise my health doing it well.....!

Will possibly go and write the book thats been waiting to be written!

Yes, it must be a very difficult decision and not done lightly I am sure.
Great pity we aren't closer as I could do with some of the things you are selling.

Oh Val

If I were in the financial position I would have the sheepies in a heartbeat.

Are you really sure??? I'm not sure how long you have been thinking about this, but livestock, and sheep in particular, have been such a significant part of your life. :sheep: :)
Would it not be possible to downsize a bit and get together with like-minded people to help when difficulties arise? I, for one, would be happy to give you a hand. I would learn from all your experience and expertise so it it would be a two-way thing.  I'm sure that there would be other people who would also be happy to lend a hand.  Just a thought.........................

Aw bless you Possum! I will still be advising, still got a huge interest in sheep and always will have and will always hang about on here! I downsized in 2007 from 130 sheep to a small flock of Ouessants....and then recently to a few very easy Ryelands, but there are always regular tasks, eg taking bales out to feeders....and I have fields scattered around! rounding up to do feet, mucking out pigs daily in the winter etc.....I keep stock to a very high standard and cannot bear it if I have to wait on someone for help! We are also Helpx hosts and have taught soooo many people here.

However I an always willing to run sheep keeping courses etc on other peoples holdings to keep passing the knowledge and plan to start to write..... :fc:

Hi Val,

I'd be really keen to have the 2 long hay racks, troughs, shedding gate and possibly trailer (depending on size).

Thanks,
Neil

Hi there
Such sad news, but sometimes you have to do what feels right at the time.
Probably bagged by now, but I'd have your trailer and pig ark if they were still available.
All the very best

Hi Val Sorry to hear that.
If the hay racks don't go, I'll take them and the shedding gate, Would be interested in any other sheep bits and pieces.
How many haylage bales are there?

Let me know if I can do anything,

Take care
Ben
