What was that noise ......
« on: January 09, 2013, 11:38:58 am »
Feeding the animals this morning, dark, and foggy, and drizzly. Near the goats sheds I heard a strangle squawk .......looked round but it had gone quiet.  Thought it sounded like a lamb, or goat kid, but no kids due, and not seen any ewes in the farmers field next door.  Went to peer through the fog,but no sheep .....walked away and noise came again, further up the field ........
Then realisation dawned ........no surely not .........my two sixteen week old bantie x silkies, I have nurtured and cared for so lovingly since they hatched ..... thought they were both pullets..one is turning into a blooming cockerel, and it was him squawking, trying to crow!!!!!  Typical, the fox took a pullet last week from the other pen.

Why is it that foxes take the pullets and leave the cockerals?

Maybe pullets are tastier?!! None of the cockerels went during the recent fox raids, yet they were standing in the field too.......
