Information from RBST on Breeds at Risk Register. I'm doing mine today.

"Dear Rosemary,

Breeds at Risk Register (for cattle, sheep, goats and pigs)

The RBST no longer administers the Breeds At Risk Register on behalf of DEFRA. However, keepers can still register animals that they have as breeds at risk (for cattle, sheep, goats and pigs in GB) on their premises in advance of a disease outbreak by sending a completed Breeds at Risk Registration Form to the email address: breedsatrisk@ahvla.gsi.gov.uk

The form should be available from AHVLA via the website: http://archive.defra.gov.uk/foodfarm/farmanimal/diseases/atoz/fmd/about/riskreg.htm
This registration does not guarantee that breeds at risk animals on the premises will be spared but it will help give advance information to Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA) officials that can be used during an outbreak. During an exotic disease outbreak, keepers with premises within control zones or on suspect/infected or contact premises will also have the opportunity to inform the AHVLA if they have breeds at risk when AHVLA officials visit their premises.

The eligibility criteria are that:

The breed must be listed as being rare in the UK country report on farm animal genetic resources 2002
The breed must be native to the UK
The animals must be pedigree and registered with the relevant breed society
RBST still advise people to register their animals on the register. Unlike previously, following much negotiation between RBST and DEFRA, there are no thresholds for minimum animal numbers, so all animals (however few) can be registered as long as they fulfill the above criteria. If you have previously made an application and changes to stock numbers have since occurred, RBST advise you to make a fresh application using your up to date numbers of animals on you premises, and we understand that the new application should over-ride the older one.

If you have any queries, please contact breedsatrisk@ahvla.gsi.gov.uk

If people have applied in the past they do not need to reapply now but may wish to do so if their information or herd / flock sizes have changed.
If they are pig breeders, provided they are members of the BPA and their pigs are registered in their ownership they will be added automatically.
If they have not applied in the past and they breed Lop Pigs or any breeds
of sheep cattle or goats they will need to apply through the above contacts links, and emailing the completed form to:

breedsatrisk@ahvla.gsi.gov.uk

There do not appear to be any instructions on the AHVLA website for sending by post.

I hope this is some help.

Kind regards

Claire"
