Scottish National Poultry Show 19th - 20th January 2013
« on: December 27, 2012, 08:26:52 am »
The Scottish National Poultry Show 2013 is on at the Lanark Auction Mart (ML11 9SZ) on Saturday 19Th - Sunday 20Th January 2013 entries are now closed but worth a look for those that want to learn more about the different breeds. There's usually something in the region of 3,500 exhibits

Judging is on the Saturday morning / midday so if not exhibiting better coming later in the afternoon or on sunday to see the results.

There are sales classes with birds for sale at a fixed price - usually not that cheap but good quality - theres also a catalogue so if you fancy a breed you can contact those that keep the breed either near to you or those that have the better quality birds ( depending on your needs). It usually a couple of quid on the door to get in but a good learning experience and plenty of experienced hands to ask questions of.

The Sunday, I think. I was going to enter Ruby, my Black Orpington, but like you, didn't get organised in time.

I'll be handing out Festival leaflets  ;D

Yes Anke, ducks and geese too. It is worth going, the catalogue is great because you can look up so many breeders, and it is rare to get so many poultry in one place in Scotland.

The bit I loved, when they held it at the Royal Highland Centre, and at Perth, there would be a bus hired from up north, all these people with their cages of chooks in the hold of the bus, and them all queuing to get back on the bus, after queuing to put the chooks in the hold... Amazing.

I will be trying to get to this event I was there last year on the Friday night collecting some beautiful
bantams all the way up from Hampshire and there was a real Buzz about the place.

Shetland sheep, Castlemilk Moorits sheep, Hebridean sheep, Scots Grey Bantams, Scots Dumpy Bantams. Shetland Ducks.

Yep, sounds good. I'll send you my mobile number.

Think I will go both days, as I don't want to miss out any hens of my breed that might be for sale!

Is there a catalogue, I'm needing a replacement Steinbacher gander and don't want to go if there's not one or I'll come back with lots of expensive freeloaders I don't need  ::)

again again again again again again
registered soay, castlemilk moorit  and north ronaldsay sheep, pygmy goats, steinbacher geese, muscovy ducks, various hens, lots of visiting mallards, a naughty border collie, a puss and a couple of guinea pigs
