Corn from brewery
« on: January 07, 2013, 10:00:42 am »
I've just put a post on the poultry site about a friend of mine who has a micro brewery and has given me a load of corn (barley I presume) that is a waste product. I'm presuming it might be ok for the chickens but not for the sheep? Would others agree?  Thanks

If they are brewers grains (as It sounds like) they are perfectly ok for feeding to sheep.

the spent grain is boiled barley grains, and yes it is good for sheep, they may take a day or 2 to get used to it, but soon enjoy it. However you need to consider minerals when feeding it as it will cause a mineral imbalance.  We feed it with some added sugarbeet which helps to balance the Ca:P ratio and add additional general sheep minerals.
It should give you good savings on your feed bill!
