 Never have posted on this topic but always read the threads and becoming so much more aware of this problem
Poor pigs a life of suffering at the hands of 'pet lovers' - so much better to have 6 months of a 'normal' piggy life and then the freezer than a life of unnatural behavoiur and house pampering, or whatever these pigs past is!

Interestingly, I found out today that the author of a much-publicised book about mps ended up handing them over to an animal sanctuary: http://www.savingrarebreeds.org/Pigs.html

i am not sure why anyone would find this interesting mp breeders have fallen by the wayside in numbers or was it he wrote a book? if its the book thing all that means in my eyes is he is talented enough to put words together it does not mean he implements his own work i know of someone that published a book on livestock (wont say which) his stock are a shocking exaple of breed standard but he has a good eye when judging others in the ring.
we can still learn if we are willing to listen.

It was jane Croft who wrote a book on micro pigs.

No, it is interesting. If you keep micro pigs in your house, have them share your life, write a book about it, etc etc, then it IS interesting that these self same pigs end up living at a sanctuary and looking distinctly un-micro!

Surely they should be back at home on the sofa where they belong?  :innocent:

has anyone who commented actually read Matt Whymans book???
i have and its just a light-hearted tale on his experiences of 2 pet pigs, of which one was neutered. he wasnt endorsing them really, cos it was clear the whole situation was a living nightmare. written in a comic style. i know he did try AI in the book but failed, both the semen and the weaners he bought cost a fortune though.

maybe theres more to the tale after the book was published that i dont know about?

Thought I'd posted this but obviously forgot to press send ::)  She is going to keep her pigs and I can understand this but she seems at her wit's end. Had to bite back the offer to keep them as pets, my gilt is going for sausages in the New Year and I will find that hard :(
