Hello from Palacerigg

  :raining:
Hello from Palacerigg Rare Breeds Farm. We are an Approved Farm Park with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust and have a wide range of livestock including Eriskay ponies, Shetland cattle, Bagot goats, Tamworth pigs, a good range of poultry and our sheep flocks include Boreray, Soay, Castlemilk Moorit and North Ronaldsay.
Some of you may remember we were threatened with closure a couple of years ago and we were saved by an on line petition. Thanks if you signed it! We are still here although with reduced staff numbers and are consequently reducing our livestock numbers to best suit our staffing levels.
We have recently started selling animal feed which is getting a lot of folk closer to the animals and has increased our visitor numbers. We are now working on complying with the new Hygiene Regs regarding animal contact on farms. This involves a lot of fencing and a new hand washing facility outdoors. We''ve also received some money to upgrade our Visitor Centre and cafe.
Drop in sometime!

Hi Palacerigg - I got my Mortimer from you - and a fine Castlemilk Moorit chap he is - his second year of duty this year was completed in 3 days!! although day 1 - 2 was 17 days apart (not his fault) and he managed to do things first time at 5 months old, he's well behaved and I am really please with him - thank you

Hello and welcome.
I heard you were looking for the services of a Shetland bull, did you find one? I am in East Lothian and although I do not have a Shetland bull yet, I hopefully will for next year so may be able to help out in future.

Welcome  from Sally in Cumbria.  I visited after the Smallholder Show to see your remaining 2012 lambs; Lucy was away that day, sadly.  I will be in touch on the same mission earlier in the year next year!  ;)

I'd love to talk fleeces with you some more... I know you are happy for your flock to self-shed, but I'd be keen to see, for the sake of all the spinners who love spinning British rare breeds fleece, if we couldn't help you get it clipped appropriately and sold to crafters...  And maybe some gift items made and sold through your shop?

I'm too far away to be very hands on on site, sadly  :(  but I do have a lot of enthusiasm... ;)
