Home made picker (no not nose)

I am thinking of making a Picker, basic box type and also perhaps a mesh drum for tumbling alpaca fleece etc to remove debris VM. Has anyone tried making their own?

It does rather resemble a medieval torture device and I wouldn't want my hand to get stuck in it :o
