My asparagus is growing......
« on: November 23, 2012, 05:36:45 pm »
So we lopped all the top growth off the asparagus bed about a month ago, and put a nice mulch on top of the bed in preparation for winter  ;D

We now have spears appearing from one of the crowns! Should I let them grow or cut them off to stop the root system being overworked at this time of the year?

Oh yes - our strawberry plants are also starting to produce new shoots as well!

These are both in a polytunnel by the way  ;)

I'd leave them alone there is a frost due any day soon .
I have full sized strawbs on the plants in the barrel a
I ate a massive  fully ripe straw berry off the barrel last week and put a hand full of rotting ones in the composter .
Most of my sparra grass is pushing up shoots so all 'll do is add more compost
