When Will Hen start laying Again
« on: June 01, 2009, 03:17:27 pm »
One of our girls hatched nine chicks two weeks ago and the family are doing very well. They are now outside in a house with run to keep them safe. How old should they be before i let them out to roam, do i take mum away or just leave her. How long will it be before she starts laying again. The other hens can now see them, mother hen does not seem keen that they are around but i expect she will settle.  :chook:

Make sure that they are well protected from the air as sparrowhawks can carry them off for another few weeks. :&>

Mine went back to laying when the chick we hatched under her was 5 weeks old so not long,  but thats the only time we have tried it so not sure if thats the norm or not.
