my daughters due this first jab, im doing the research on whether to allow or not. it would seem that this jab aims to save 400 lives in the uk. i dont think its worth the risk, having found lots of evidence of it causing cps and me as side effects.

the vaccine can prevent 70% of the hpv infections that may lead to cc, still leaves 30% that isnt prevented, it only offers 6yrs of protection.
 
its a very hard call, as are all of them, so far, im not going to allow.
 
its also only 3yrs old (the vaccine) and is the most profitable vaccine ever produce by gsk.

How old is your daughter? Is she able, do you think, to make her own mind up about this or at least have some input? It's not an easy one.


She could talk to nurses/doctors/ school nurse.

shes 12, despite her being brighter than i am, the responsibility lies on my shoulders, not hers. however i will discuss it with her.

My daughter-inlaw had to have an operation last year for cervical cancer which was picked up at her  smear test. She is 30 years old with 2 young children. The fear and stress she and our whole family went through was horrible. At the moment she gets checks every 6 months but we all hope with all our hearts that she never has to go though anything like that again. Its not an easy choice for any injection for our children but if we can protect them we do.

i cant see the point in vaccinating 700 000 kids to MAYBE save 400 lives? each vaccine series (3)costs £360. thats around 200 million to save 400 lives. thats the equivalent of half a mill each.wtf?
someones making a load of dosh out of this.

sabrina, the screening still continues because the jab doesnt protect against all forms of hpv, so it was the screening that saved your DiL, which my daughter will still get.

When I qualified as a nurse, I specialised in Gynaecology. I nursed so many women with cervical cancer - I've supported partners of young women who lost the fight. Milli will be due this jab next year and I will carry out lots of research same as you are DITW.  I'll also be chatting to some gynae consultant friends to find out their thoughts/latest findings and research, same as I spoke to medics when the girls were due MMR.
Its a very hard call and only you and your daughter can make that decision based on what you read, learn and believe.

It's a tough call mate, personally if I had been offered it I would have refused. But that would have been my choice. Having to choose for someone else

It's so hard for parents.  I wouldn't let mine have the whooping cough jab but then I suffered agonies worrying that they'd get it.  I'm glad that they are now past the ages where I have to make those decisions.

We gave ours the MMR. I remember after Milli had had it, every tantrum or behavioural issue scared me that we'd 'given' her autism. Then a friend who opted not to have the MMR for her little boy rang me in tears - he'd contracted measles, a very severe case and was in paediatric ITU - he nearly died. Being a parent is so hard, you feel damned if you do, damned if you don't with half these things

one thing i dont understand is they give this starting age 12 because they assume sexual activity ie sex to start at 13. its only good for 6 yrs so will they revaccinate at 19, then again at 25?
