Sorry to hear your car went up in flames. Maybe an independent vehicle assessor could find the source of the fire? I hear a HUGE percentage of vehicle fires are caused by faulty electrics if a professional assessor finds the problem with the freelanders electrics then you may have recourse.

I drive Nissans, having had endless hassle with both a Defender and a Freelander. Interesting that nearly every farmer down this dale, miles from anywhere, so needing reliability, drives Nissans and Mitsubishis!

I have always avoided any vehicle with the word "Rover" in it as a point of principle. I hear so many complaints about them. Our 20 year old Pajero is the most Reliable/Robust vehicle we've ever owned...... and its cumfy  too!

We have a friends who organise extreme trophy raid off-road competitions in Russia and they almost all insist on Japanese 4x4's. They say the landrover is not strong enough. The one landy that entered the event we were involved in broke a driveshaft. Mind you it was tough going.

Thanks for that Robbie, there were some recalls on the earlier model but ours was 2010.
I still think fuel problem. Smell of diesel, loss of power ( fuel leaking out and system losing pressure).., fire when we stopped. Fuel still leaking,none now going into the cylinders, temperature rising with no airflow.
We use our L200 for towing and dragging round the muddy lanes but the Freelander was just such a comfy car !!

As you say Plums it's a nice comfy vehicle. We have only ever used it as a car as we like the high driving position. We have an old L200 that we use off-road and for towing.
The thing is that as it has been dealer serviced from new and is still under warranty we feel more than a little let down.

Perhaps a call to the "Watchdog" team on the Beeb would be in order. If they contacted Landrover, it may push them to inspect it at least. They wouldnt want the bad publicity, especially in this climate. Good Luck.

I think Mary has a good point there. Jaguar Landrover have been celebrating huge upturns in business and opening new plants, they don't need a negative rush in the media and could do with an opportunity to sort this ASAP.
I for one and really worried about this. Not only because I drive ours daily for school run etc but OH does long distance work runs in it (hundreds of miles)
