Hi, I am new to all of this.
« on: May 31, 2009, 12:19:28 pm »
Hello, me and my partner have decided to become self efficient on a small holding, the problem being he only every helped his parents out years ago and I am totally new to all of it, I am trying to learn what to do and who to talk to. We nearly bought an 8 acre small holding in north Wales, so that my partner could carry on working whilst we got ourselves on out feet. Sadly it had already been rented. We are looking for a long term rental for a small holding in North Wales. We are going to do a course on small holding.

Does anyone have anything that I can learn or any news of a small holding for less than £700-£800 in North Wales?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello, hope you find somewhere to rent, I bet there are some nice farms/smallholdings in North Wales, I know parts well as my mum was born in North Wales,  my Grandads family moved from Scotland to start and manange a pit in North Wales so that is why there are so many cousins etc in North Wales and why as a child all our holiday were in North Wales...memories of Rhyl,  not the best now but when I was little it had the sand sea and the fun fair and of course the BIG rusty railyway bridge.....fingers crossed you will need new wellies from Santa!!!

Hi Amy
if you are struggling finding somewhere, have you tried registering with river cottage land share scheme? it might be a way of breaking inot the self sufficiency without breaking the bank or taking on too much.
good luck!  http://landshare.channel4.com/

we have a 7acre field on a hill- its lain farrow for a year before we plucked up enough courage to start- now have 8 chickens, 3 pigs, 2 cats a dog and a rabbit, oh and the goldfish....
sheep are coming in August if all goes to plan and the polytunnel went up last week!!!!

The peeps here have been fantastic and i am trawling the pages at least once a week for recreation as well as advice.

have faith and you'll find something

Hello from NW Leicestershire. We have a 4 acre smallholding with horses, chickens and the recent addition of pigs. Unfortunately both hubby and I still have to work full time so it's hard work managing it all but well worth it. If you're going the whole hog so to speak then good luck to you I'm sure you won't regret it.
