When to move turkeys onto finishers?
« on: October 24, 2012, 10:06:06 pm »
We're new to doing turkeys this year so learning as we go  :innocent:

When I popped in to our local  feed store this week  to pick up some turkey grower pellets they were asking me when I was going to move on to finisher pellets as they try to get enough in their weekly delivery to keep the regulars happy. I had no idea what to say as I've not thought that far ahead. Do I switch when they reach a specific weight or on a specific date or by some other guideline?

Hi  I am new to turkeys as well but have read they should have finishers pellets at 16 -17 weeks for table birds.  Dont know why yet and dont know what the difference is from growers.
I suppose the finishers is ok if you know when you are going to eat the birds but dont know how long you feed this stuff for before the eating.  Love turkeys though they are interested in everything.

Ours wont touch corn yet but they may be too young at 20 weeks. They have murdered my brussels though.
