first pig to slaughter - how clean?
« on: September 30, 2012, 01:37:59 pm »
Hello,
Please could I have some advice on how clean our pig needs to be to go to the abattoir. She will have a 12  hour food curfew and we will load her into the trailer first thing that morning .Since she will have been inside on straw she will be relatively clean apart from her legs and feet which will probably be muddy. Some websites I have looked at recommend getting in the trailer with your pig to give her a wash. This is not possible as part of the reason she is going to slaughter is her aggressiveness. Any ideas?

Thanks

hi, in my experience (former small Abattoir owner) there is no need to wash your pigs before going to the Abattoir.
regards.

We certainly didn't wash our pigs beforehand.  They had muddy feet but wern't bad apart from that
