Betty's craft exhibition - south of Scotland
« on: September 28, 2012, 11:31:53 am »

Yesterday, when we were off looking at a Shetland tup for our new gimmers, we were taken to see this little exhibition by Betty Fraser Harris, who formerly had the lovely Walton flock of Shetlands.  There is some wonderful feltwork and natural dyeing, using plants and fungi from her surroundings.  I had never seen blue printing ('heliographic cyanotype printing' ) before but that is amazing - the materials to do it are available from George Weil supplies. Betty has used the process with her old family photos to excellent effect, and has used it for a bedspread.  She has also made a felting demonstration using hand made figures, of felting in the East.  It starts with a woman weighing the fleece for her giant felt project, then takes you through the whole process, including the large felt piece rolled and pulled by a yak  8)   There are lovely felted  and embroidered waistcoats, tiny crocheted bootees, oh all sorts of things, all on display in her own home.  She is intending to keep the exhibition going for a little longer than advertised below, so if you are in southern Scotland, or passing up the A702, do take the time to drop in.  We loved it  :knit:

What a shame I'm not up that way. It sounds just my kind of thing.
