I am going to wash a couple of the castlemilk moorit fleece that I got from Doug and then intend to dye them. Yes, I know they are already coloured fleece but thought that adding one or more colours to them might look nice.
As the base colour is brown it will have to be a darkish hue to have any influence so I am going to use either a burgundy or purple. With the lighter tops I hope there will make a nice variation.
I have ordered some acid dyes to try out for the first time in the microwave.
Anyone got any tips?

Years ago I organised a 'Breed Challenge' on the then infant Online Guild.   Someone dyed some of my Heb fleece and before I saw it I thought it was a waste of time.  It came out really well though, with the paler parts (from old lady fleeces) taking up the dye quite strongly.  The darker parts just take on a tinge, but again that's interesting.

Dark fleeces look good too plied with lumpily spun coloured silk - let's be honest, all my spun silk comes out lumpy

Umm - Wingham Wools and Scottish Fibres both sell silk fibre.  It comes in funny-named shapes like hankies and caps, or you can buy the cocoons if you really want to spend forever preparing it.  All sorts of qualities too, and sari silk bits which come in all sorts of lovely colours.  I don't spin it much because it goes up my nose    and I find it very difficult to blend with fibres such as wool.   It works beautifully on felt, especially nuno felt.
