Did You go?
What did you get?
I didn't make it, was hoping for Hampshires or Oxfords but will have to be next year now, which is a pity 'coz i've so much grass.

I went and managed to not buy anything :o :o

Very proud of myself.

An awful lot of shetlands didn't sell as the prices were so low ???

But that has meant I have secured for a few weeks time a VERY pretty patterned registered ram lamb for an absolute bargain.  ;D

I went..... sniffed and fondled fleeces, petted a gorgeous GFD, loved all the Shetlands and chatted loads after we eventually found our way of the Motorway. LOL. my co-pilot was as rubbish as the pilot, hey Colliewoman  ;D
Unfortunately, I had to go before the sale started but I woud be interested to know what the sale prices were!

That is hopefully gonna throw out some beautiful fleeces for your spinning!!!!
You do realise that when I learn to spin, I will need flocks for showing AND flocks for fleeces. mmmmm. Sheepies!

Good to see you today Mallows & Colliewoman, my ram came home as he didn't make his reserve but the ewes made 100 gns each   prices were generally low, could do with being a bit earlier and better advertised......

I was there looking at Ryelands and the Down breeds, they all seemed very cheap and lots didn't meet the reserve. Mr Wear sold his Ryeland Ram Lamb and Ewe Lamb for over 300 guineas each but they were the expensive ones I saw sold. I think next year if its held again it should be at the weekend and maybe in July/August. I did however meet some lovely people Devon who may be selling me some more Ryelands!

It was great to see so many different breeds of sheep represented in one venue. I've never really looked at Shetlands before, they are so tiny and cute. I'd love a bottle fed one to run with the Ryelands. What do you do with the boys? Pets? Lawnmowers? They look too sweet to eat!

shetlands are very sweet....and very tasty.....and have fleeces that people want and skins off the meat ones that people will pay lots for....! If you have good fencing you can do well with them!

LOL.... don't ask me... I am terrible at selling them jcrang. I must, must, must start selling! Thing is, the boys are really handsome so its hard for me to let them go, but I WILL, I WILL, I WILL. LOL
One thing tho, I personally don't know anyone who gets orphans as Shetlands are very easy lambers, milky mothers and ferociously good mothers. they also chuck out singles and triplets but if triplets are born, the mothers rear them pretty much single handedly (so I hear but have never had triplets yet to experience this myself!)
You may be better with a wethered ram. Depending on whether you want Shetland x breeding or not.

it was one long drawn out day, and prices were rubbish, no one was interested in anything although we did get a bargain - my grandaughter got the ram she has wanted (shetland) who was also champion for a song so it was swiings and roundabouts - however I still have a shearling Shetland (grandaughters) and shearling Hebridean who could both have to go in freezer!!
