I have a small 3rd year magnolia in the front garden. It was absolutely fine last spring but did not flower this spring and its leaves are tiny. Any suggestions what the problem could be more than welcome!

Is the tree up against a lime cement wall? It may be reacting to the high PH of the soil. I do know they don't like to stand in water

No, it's near the fence, but I'll take a test. It might be a bit acidic as we have a lot of buttercups this year. Will just sprinkling on a bit of lime help, you think? The area around it is covered in perennial flowers, I don't want to clear anything at the moment. It might have been a bit of a cold and wet winter for it, too.

Most magnolias prefer acid to neutral soil, I would dig in some humus rich compost.

Hi oops sorry i meant high ph as in 7+ or alkaline... you say it is up against a fence could it be wind burn?
