Wheres the wool gone?
« on: September 06, 2012, 06:57:51 pm »
Hi all,

one of our ewes has been losing some wool, a couple of narrow strips round the neck. Corvec'd all the girls, and re had a look at this ewe as I thought she had fly strike - she hadn't. Skin looked a bit red and inflamed. Other than this she is fine. Any ideas?

Cheers Mark

Not an expert but I would say she's had her head through the fence - "the old grass is always green" - we have a few shetlands that constantly stick their head through and get a bald patch that sometime can look a little pink.

I hope that's it and nothing more serious

Yup, ditto that.  Mine also get a bit missing at the base of the neck along the top.  I have one ewe that seems to teach all her lambs to do the same, and they are the ones with the missing wool bits :).
