Lleyn cross
« on: August 26, 2012, 04:25:15 pm »
Hi
I have recently bought a couple of Lleyn x shetland ewes, having read a lot of positive talk about Lleyn crosses and wondered if anyone can give me any personal experience/ feedback about them?
We already have a mixed flock of purebred Reg. Soay & Jacobs as well as assorted Chelford Market texel cross cade lambs.
We are in Cheshire, good grass land slightly damp.
Thanks
Jo :raining:

I have Lleyn x Shetland ewes and Charollais x Lleyn mums x Shetland sire ewes - they are great! Larger carcass than a Shetland but with good Shetland feet and nicer, softer fleece. Spinners like them too. Much less flighty than my Shetlands.  I rarely have to do anything to them. GThe best bit for me is that most of mine have the Shetland tail.... not very fleecy so no dagging required!  :relief:
From 3 to 30 and still flocking up!

My vet keeps this cross so it must have something going for it!

we believe that one of ours is a lleynXtexel.  She is fabulous, very easy to manage, extremely healthy and when the singing shearer came out he said her wool was incredible quality  :)

Thanks guys
Just what I wanted to hear. I love keeping sheep but work full time, so I need them to be reasonably easy! 8)
