If they're overweight (and over 9-10 months, thus developed and grown enough to be without the vitamins and minerals found in pig feed) and free - then you could keep them on grass with some fruit & veg. til the end of September before starting to suppliment with a bit of haylage and some pig nuts once the weather gets colder - it'll cost very little to slim them down

Our 'fat' gilts were bought with the intention of using them to breed (the pervious owner had let them get a bit fat and also left it a bit late for getting them to the boar) we kept them here, slimmed them down a bit and they ran with the boar. As each season came and went (with obvious signs of service) it was more obvious that they weren't going to get in-pig (plus they were pretty aggressive towards my other pigs - including the Tamworths

) so we didn't really want to breed from that kind of temprament and took the decision to slaughter. Both were over 100Kg deadweight and yes, they were very fat (even having dieted for a while) but very tasty
I'm a bit of a bacon fan (part of the reason why I keep Large Blacks too

) and am struggling to find better than that from the Kunekunes
I don't think they're more trouble than they're worth

I think Kunekunes are great

But I'm not going to start singing all their praises here cos it always starts a fight
