Worming
« on: August 17, 2012, 08:06:13 pm »
I've just had a FEC done on my 4 sheep.
The results came back saying that
* 2 had 'scanty numbers of Chabertia'
* 1 had 'scanty numbers of Cocci and coccidial oocysts'
* 1 had 'moderate Strongyl'.
The recommendation was the use of Panacur - but I'm not sure if I should worm them all or just the one with the moderate strongyl count. I don't want to worm just for the sake of it - hence the FEC.
Also - is it best to worm them and then put them on new pasture after a few days or worm them on new pasture? Thank you

Hi,

Scanty and Moderate doesnt give much to go on.

Were you provided with an EPG level for each? as this should be the norm with an FEC - it would then give you more information to work with.

That aside, do worm the ones that are susceptable and leave the ones with the higher resistance.

Current advice (Mordun) is to keep them on old ground, not move them to new at worming, in an effort to reduce the incidence of wormer resistance.

 I've rung the lab up and asked for an EPG level for them all. So in the meantime I will worm the ewe with the 'moderate Strongyl' and leave the rest. Thanks for the helpful replies.
