Hi all,
in next few weeks i will be lookinng to buy an old landy (TAX EXCENPT),series ll or lll.Im in South Yorkshire area, thanks alot Greengrass..

We buy our 4x4's from our local Landrover garage, and whilst there a couple of weeks back, noticed a couple of old landies in their compound. Not South Yorks, but not far over the Derbyshire border.

If you do not find one near you, ask me for the name and number of the Garage.

lloyds of carlisle have an 05 plate landy with 23k on the clock... nice clean vehicle good runner... I know this because we part ex'd it for a new toyota pick-up... tax ex.. and only 9500.. They gave us 9K for it so its a fair price

when you say tax exempt I thought only those real oldies were eg series landrovers. Are you thinking of no VAT? I dont know of any 05 vehicle that would be car tax exempt, altho it might be lower rate if counted as LGV not PLG eg cos of hard sides? but thats still £200s for car tax.

I think he means pre january '73 ie series 1, 2, 2a or a very early series 3.

The series II and III landies seem to be in great demand, and hold their money!! Those I saw at our local garage were priced to sell though, and I thought they were a bargain for someone

all the landies do- I wanted to change our Y reg TD5 for one a bit newer but found not only were they way out of price range even the same age as the Y reg was when we got it, but our Y reg is worth more now than when we got it. So we have kept it!
I think it might be because they can no longer make them from the end of next year - the dispensation from crash testing performance expires and no more extensions are possible.
I would think an old series would be pretty pricey now on that basis as it has the collectable aspect as well.
We have a series II or III being used as a mobile water bowser, perhaps we should rescue it, we could probably buy a snazzy bowser with the money they way things are going!

Old series are very desirable now! we have recently sold 2 series ll one a 109 and the other a lla swb both non runners we were going to do up for a lot of money.... try ebay as thats where the landy enthusiasts hang out!

Apparently it needs to be 31 Dec 1972 or before to be tax exempt

So since seriesIII started in 1971 and ended in 1983, most series III wont be tax exempt tho early ones will, to be safe it would need to be SI or SII or a verifiably early SIII
