Hi

Just wondering how people manage the flock health in terms of clostridial disease, pasteurella, pregnancy toxaemia, enzo abortion and what your worming procedure is.

Or any other vaccinations that are done

Thanks

I think it depends on the land, buy in policy etc.
eg I have rotation of species, plenty of pasture, no history of worm burdens or any fluke, scab, orf  or tick issues. Nor have I ever lost a lamb post birth apart from one lost to a golden eagle!
So, based on that and also my wish to not dose routinely except where the benefit outweighs the risk, I only routinely use Heptavac P+, partly because it protects against so many different things incl the clostridial and pasteurella you mention, and partly because with the right timing, the ewes doses give the lambs some protection too.

I routinley vaccinate with heptavac for the colostridials etc. I target my worming at species found in FECs, which I have done every 8 weeks. I will use a flukicide going into autumn, usually combined with the wormer I'm using.

I don't jab for pregnancy toxemia, never having seen it. Were I to have cases of abortion, I would put that ewe with the ewe lambs who will then get, and develop an immunity to that particular strain of the disease.

Orf, I rely on salt licks to clear up. I believe scratching for it is of limited effecacy and is certainly very time consuming.

Thanks for the replies.

What you have said above is what I have looked at and found out but was looking for some confirmation from people who are currently doing it.

Thanks again
