Ok so sometime between 6am and 10.30 am our 5 lambs have become 6 !
none of the local farmers are owning up to it being theirs so what do I do with it ?
its untagged and a pain in the rear because its not tame like ours and jumping walls, something we do not need ours learning to do

It's going berserk because it's scared, so if you are going to keep it, pen it close with the others for a day while they bond then let them out together.  The problem with that is if it's bringing any diseases or pests with it, in which case you would want to quarantine it, although it might be a bit late if it's already in with your lambs.

I dont have any Tags other than the goat ones and as we dont have adult sheep a lamb with our tags wouldnt Tally for defra ?
 The lambs we have where tagged by the farmer and we got them as week old orphans and destined for the freezer    As the land backs onto the fell I am guessing its come from there, there is quite a lot of feral sheep up there that are untagged and nothing ever done to them. They come down in the winter to get hay off the farms that have hay out for there own animals

You could either tag it as yours or leave it. If the rest of its flock come your way I suppose it'll go back. If defra inspect, just say it isnt yours unless youve tagged it. If the sheep are hefted, then they would be gathered for tagging at weaning,.although I imagine some escape the gather.

When this happened to us the local Animal Health were quite helpful.  Just said record it in your book as a stray and they would keep a note too (in the unlikely event anyone claimed we had taken it).  I put one of our slaughter tags in just before he 'went on'.  You could always just get a few cheap slaughter tags with your flock no.
