John Hulbert, Perth’s Provost until earlier this year, had the foresight to graft scions from the ancient pear varieties of the Carse of Gowrie before they were forgotten. The result is a uniquely valuable collection on dwarfing rootstock which will be vital in the identification of trees in the remaining Carse Orchard.
