Great Yorkshire Show
« on: July 10, 2012, 02:55:30 pm »
:-[  Just saw it announced on  local TV at lunchtime.   Due to weather etc.tomorrow they're only letting people in who already have tickets, you won't be able to buy tickets at the gate.

The carparks looked dreadful and they are advising anyone going to use Public Transport if possible.

Their website says cancelled now. Not sure what has happened with getting all the livestock off the showfield, but no doubt we will find out.

I have been at big shows with the horses, and have been there when they turn the public away, but carry on with the show.  Very strange not to have spectators.

Have been towed off plenty of show fields, and even on to one, a couple of years ago!!

What a shame about the GYS.....I have always enjoyed this show.  Was hoping to go, but seeing the dreadful weather this morning, decided not to ......two hour journey, and was thinking they may cancel while I was en route.

Got the following e-mail from the GYS this morning

Dear Visitor,

After 3 months of unprecedented rainfall we have had to take the difficult decision to cancel the Great Yorkshire Show on the evening of the first day; after suffering a further 30 minute deluge this afternoon.  Sadly the car parks cannot now be used to park cars safely and so we simply can’t continue.  This is a heartbreaking decision for everyone who loves the Great Yorkshire Show and is involved in making it so special.

Visitors - refunds will be issued for visitors who have bought tickets in advance, please send your tickets back to us with your name and address and we will organise refunds as soon as we can. Or alternatively you can keep the tickets and use them for the 2013 Great Yorkshire Show.

Membership – we hope our members will continue to support the Yorkshire Agricultural Society through this difficult period.

Livestock  - we will be in contact with all livestock exhibitors and refund all entries fees for events that have not taken place.

Tradestand – we will be in touch with all tradestand holders shortly.

Kind Regards

Was really looking forward to going this year as was unable to go last :(
Already two more local shows called off Cleveland & Picton fingers crossed for Driffield next week.
