Banana Skins
« on: May 01, 2009, 12:10:18 am »
I read somewhere that bananas should be fed with the skin still on, why is this? I am just wondering because my pigs push out the fleshy interior with their snouts and leave the skin.

Hilary (aka Galloping Gourmet/Gannet) will not eat banana skins.  Most of our pigs will if offered a banana in the skin.  Hilary's have to be peeled.

mine have nearly all rejected the skin and eaten the fleshy bit. but having bitten the end off a banana, who can blame them, it's not pleasant.

That's grand, I was just wondering if they were missing out on some wonderful nutrition by not eating the skin...obviously not. Picky little buggers!

OK one upmanship here, Hilary adores strawberries.  Not that any one is brave enough to feed them by hand, we put them in the bucket.

I'm with you Dixie - what a bunch of pampered pigs! Mine only get the skins and they love them.
