Very tame pet lamb
« on: July 05, 2012, 08:41:24 pm »
I have a very tame pet lamb that isn't growing,
I cannot keep him so I am going to have to pay £20 to get him lamb chopped with the others but he has no meat on him so it will be a waste of my money.

All my sheep are very tame and they love cuddles, he is a lleyn x texel (or beltex but the farmer is now not sure which it was!) been wormed and flied.

Would anyone like him for free? pet/lawnmower only homes please :) I am on the north hampshire/berkshire border

Took some photos of him this afternoon with my young sister

When you say he has no meat on him, do you mean his is pretty bony?
The only reason I ask is because I picked up 9 cade lambs... 2 of which weren't growing. After extensive care, monitoring and medicating the diagnosis is that he was so riddled with worms early in life that he has worm damage to his gut which leads them to not grow, bulk up, do well. He may need serious worming and even then never grow to be a big meaty boy.
p.s my money is on Lleyn x Texel!
Good luck with him

Definitely texel x as he looks like my texel x who is the best ewe in my flock!
Hope you find a good home for him.  I am tempted as we are on the Hampshire border but we already have several pet sheep......

Every year, we and every other farmer around end up with a few tail-end (commercial) lambs that look like they'll never finish.  ::)  And every spring, we get them all away and they're all always fine.

My prediction : he'll grow.  Just slowly.

SINT...that is good to know.... a nice positive touch.... i am not expecting my little bag o' bones to make a good breeder of even a decent carcass... but to have a healthy weight would be lovely so i don;t want to cry every time I pick her up and she feels just like a skeleton with a loose fleece on :o(

It might be worth giving your wee lamb a mineral drench; sometimes they're lacking a mineral and it makes them fail to thrive.

Awww....lovely pics.  Could come and live with my forever flock of mixed breeds, unfortunately too far away.  Do hope someone can take him.

I have been using Ovithrift drench on mine... you can put it in their food, milk or water and it is definitely picking them up! I recommend it wholeheartedly :o)

Aww, cute.  I had a duffer last year, who looks grand now, just took a little longer.  I hope someone takes him on.
