Well, it looks like a baby mallard? So if not a mallard, quite likely something with that sort of patterning.

Could be a mallard, muscovy or magpie duck. The pattern is very similar on all of these.
Silly Spangled Appenzellers, Dutch bantams, Lavender Araucanas, a turkey called Alistair, Muscovy ducks and Jimmy the Fell pony. No pig left in the freezer, we ate him all!

Muscovy I'd say, we breed them and it looks like that to me.

A dark sussex is the same as the white one but an opposite. Mainly black with white patterns around neck.

Oh is it horrid to say I was hoping not for a muscovy, I am not keen on the red bit around the beak (so picky  :eyelashes:)
what do people do with boy ducks? is it off to the pot or the local pond?

I tried sexing it at a day old and I think its a girl  :-\

Muscovy girls are lovely! They don't quack and are very gentle, less skittish than the European breeds. They also make brilliant mums if you want to hatch any other ducklings naturally :&>

I guess we love her now (well the kids do) so it doesn't matter what she is (unless she is a boy)

We tried hatching 6 eggs in an incubator but only 1 hatched.
We now have a really tame daft duck added to the team :)

If it's a girl you might have problems with her descendants' fertility, depending on the breed of your boys. They don't mix well genetically with European ducks. I take it you hadn't planned on hatching Muscovies from those eggs  ;D:&>
