Tomato plant turning to mush
« on: June 29, 2012, 07:33:26 am »
My Black Russian tomato plant Has been doing very well.  When I went in the poly tunnel yesterday he didn't look right. All his leaf stems on the bottom 2/3 of him had drooped like he was wilting but with out having that (I'm thirsty) look about him. On closer inspection all the leaf stems were mushy on the inside. The main stem and fruit trusses (still flowers at the moment) seem O.K. My 5 other Tomatoes 3 red cherry and 2 brandy wine seem Fine. Any Advice would be great. I'm going to cut off affected bit's today. Don't know what else to do.

Hi leghorn
Thanks for the link. After having a look I think it was stem root. Unfortunately it was beyond help. So my poor black Russian Tomato has been ripped out and disposed of :(

you could have taken a cutting from the good bits. they root easily.

I think so  :fc: . The growing tip and about 1 1/2 inches of stem have been sat in a pot of compost for 4 days and is looking quite happy. No new growth yet, I'm hoping that's because he is busy making new roots.

yep, it would have collapsed by now. i would keep it as a smallish plant tho, but keep potting it up. maybe just let it make a couple of trusses.
