As you may have seen on the news, a month's worth of rain has fallen over parts of Northern England in the last 24 hours (in excess of 100mm in a few spots) - leading to scenes of serious flooding. It's still raining across NW England and SW Scotland and frequent showers or longer spells of rain will continue here through much of Saturday, with more general rain moving in tonight, further exacerbating the flooding problems. Across central and northern Scotland, although we could see some bright or sunny spells, scattered heavy and thundery showers are likely to develop, bringing some locally torrential downpours. For the rest of England and Wales, a rather windy day again, the best chance of sunshine and staying dry across central and eastern areas, more chance of showers in the west. More general rain spreading in across SW England this evening. A rather cool day, with temperatures reaching 14C in Edinburgh, 15C in Manchester, 16C in Cardiff and 19C in London. Then through this evening and overnight, further rain will spread in from the southwest across much of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and southern Scotland - giving 20-30mm in places. The rain will be accompanied by gales across the south. The rain should clear southern England by Sunday lunchtime, with most areas having a bright day, staying mainly dry in the south but a scattering of showers in the north. A bit warmer than today, with temperatures reaching 18-21C. Into next week, Monday and Tuesday will be drier, less windy and perhaps warmer than of late, though some scattered showers will develop in the afternoon. Turning more unsettled on Wednesday, with cloud and more rain spreading in from the west across England, Wales and southern Scotland. Then it looks like a mixture of sunny spells and heavy thundery showers across many areas on Thursday and Friday
