Weather-Sealing my Chicken Coop?
« on: April 21, 2009, 10:01:14 pm »

Right, I've pretty much finished off making our chicken coop - just one job remains now!

The problem is that there is a gap at the top of the roof where one half hinges up for cleaning, and another where the roof for the external nest box hinges onto the side of the coop. Obviously I need to find some way of weather-sealing these. My original plan was to use a strip of bike inner tube glued in place, which would be both flexible and waterproof. However, I tried this using evil stick contact adhesive, and it just dissolved the paint >:(.

Can anyone recommend either another good way of solving this problem, or another way of fixing the inner tube on?

Cheers!!

try getting some underfelt from a roofing job. it will tear eventually but its free to replace.

Hi Paul,

Just wanted to say a (belated) thankyou for your idea. I couldn't get hold of underfelt, but you inspired me in another direction, and I got hold of a couple of metres of damp-course strip. It's just held in place with staples at the moment, but it's certainly doing the job!

Thanks,

Womble.
